Under the condition of material fatigue at high temperature, the cylinder has to bear alternating load and cold and hot changes for a long time. When the kiln is shut down due to production and non production reasons, the radial deformation of the cylinder section may occur. The thermal calibration of the rotary kiln shows that the surface temperature of the cylinder is often as high as 300 ℃. In this high temperature working environment, especially the alternation of cold and hot, it is easy to cause the fatigue of the steel plate material of the rotary kiln cylinder, the decrease of stiffness, and then fracture.
If there is a crack defect in the fracture source area of the kiln shell before fracture, after repair welding, but the welding quality is poor, the initial crack cracks along both sides of the repair welding, extends to both ends for a certain length and then bifurcates, and gradually turns to expand in the circumferential direction under the action of gravity, until the cylinder fracture falls off the kiln platform.
Kiln shell is a kind of low temperature brittle fracture based on large-scale defects. Under the condition of low material temperature, the dynamic load directly leads to the rapid brittle fracture. Before the final low temperature fracture, the defects undergo the process of corrosion damage, hot welding damage and crack fatigue.
Generally speaking, the fracture of rotary kiln cylinder is rare, but it is not without such phenomenon. In most cases, it is because some small manufacturers or irresponsible factories cut corners or have low manufacturing level in the process of processing.
